You gotta love The Asylum. But you also gotta know what you have in front, of course, otherwise the surprise might not be very grateful. For two decades, the popular independent film company and distributor has been responsible for a countless number of low-budget films, mainly in the terrains of science-fiction, catastrophe and horror themes, with titles standing out like Mega Piranha (2010), Airline Disaster (2010), Zombie Apocalypse (2011), Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012), Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys (2014), 2-Headed Shark Attack (2012) and its sequels, where the sharks were having one extra head in every new installment, and the popular Mega Shark and Sharknado sagas. Now it’s the time for more airplane madness, here comes Airliner Sky Battle (2020).
In the movie, Russian operatives hijack a commercial American jet, planning to crash it into a nuclear power plant near Washington, D.C. resulting in a fallout that will devastate the Eastern seaboard. With little time for Air Force fighters to shoot it down, the passengers and crew aboard the aircraft must rely on their own military and civilian training to stop the terrorists before it’s too late.
Russians threatening the USA in nuclear terms? Didn’t that people heard the Cold War is over?
The movie has been directed by Rob Pallatina, one of the recurrent directors in The Asylum who has also been behind other titles like Fortune Cookie (2016), Alien Convergence (2017), Flight 666 (2018), Alien Siege (2018), Nazi Overlord (2018), and Doctor Death (2019). Alex Heerman has been the writer of the screenplay.
Wade Baker, DeAngelo Davis, Alyson Gorske, Joseph Michael Harris, Xavi Israel, Michael Lavallee, Ego Mikitas, Daniel O’Reilly, Jamey Rimawi, Dallas Schaefer, Marisha Shine, Joyce Tatler, Gina Vitori, Terry Woodberry, and Chinese superstar Bai Ling (The Crow (1994), The Breed (2001), Three… Extremes (2004), Crank: High Voltage (2009), Sacred Blood (2015)) form the main cast.
Airliner Sky Battle (2020) is available in the regular The Asylum streaming sources since November 13, 2020. Here you can watch its official trailer.
