“The Alternate”: A portal to a different dimension is open in SciFi thriller

The headline for science-fiction and thriller The Alternate (2021) reads “be careful what you search for”. This is a very vague line, what might they be talking about? And why should we be careful when we are searching for a little bit of happiness, mental and economic stability, and a better life? Soon we will discover, let’s see what the film has to offer.

The movie centers on Jake, a videographer who discovers a portal to another dimension in which he has everything he has always wanted: the perfect version of his wife, the career of his dreams, and the daughter he never had. He starts traveling back and forth between these two worlds but soon sees that his alternate is not as perfect as he seems, and perfection comes with a price.

This is the debut feature film for writer and director Alrik Bursell, who has an experience in film festivals thanks to the collection of short films in his background.

The main cast for the movie is formed of Patrice Binaisa, Phillip Caires, Natalia Dominguez, Lisa Finnie, Alexander Marais, Syra McCarthy, Ed Gonzalez Moreno, and Olivia Pintz.

The Alternate (2021) is produced by Jeffrey Allard, who has been involved in the production of several horror-oriented films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), The Violent Kind (2010), and Holy Ghost People (2013).

The movie has been present in a bunch of independent and underground film festivals where it has achieved a good collection of awards and nominations, including winning Best Sci-Fi Feature at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and Phoenix Film Festival. Now, it is scheduled for a release on DVD by Uncork’d Entertainment on September 13, 2022.
