My Best Friend’s Exorcism is a 2016 horror novel written by Grady Hendrix, who is also the writer of Satanic Panic (2019), and published on May 17, 2016, through Quirk Books. In November 2018 it was announced that Endeavor Content had won the film adaptation rights for the book, and Christopher Landon and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein were announced to produce by The Gotham Group.
The film adaptation is set in the year 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act differently. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries-and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?
