It seems that Stephen King’s material for movie and television productions is endless. This time, the object of adaptation is Jerusalem’s Lot, a short story published in King’s 1978 collection Night Shift. The story was also printed in the illustrated edition of King’s 1975 novel Salem’s Lot. Renamed Chapelwaite, it has become a TV series whose first season consists of 10 episodes developed by Epix.

Set in the 1850s, the series follows Captain Charles Boone, who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.

The series has been created by Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi. Captain Boone is played by Adrien Brody, better known for his Oscar for his performance in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist (2002) and also the star in Summer of Sam (1999), The Village (2004), and Predators (2010). Together with him, Jennifer Ens, Sirena Gulamgaus, Ian Ho, Emily Hampshire, Gord Rand, and Trina Corkum also star.

The first episode of the series premiered on 22 August 2021. In it, Captain Charles Boone inherits his wealthy cousin’s estate and relocates his family to small-town Maine. The Boones encounter prejudice, hostility, a mystery illness, and murder as Charles begins a dangerous journey of self-discovery.
