It is out of the question, everybody must agree that human trafficking is a horrible business. But, perhaps for the sordid of the subject, it tends to be a good source for horror movies. And Girl Next (2021) is one of them, a movie centering on the evil psyche of those people who take benefit from selling and torturing others. Pure psycho horror.
In the movie, a young woman is abducted by a strange group of human traffickers who use drugs and trauma-based mind control to turn women into “Sofia dolls”. Trapped in a waking nightmare she fights for a way to escape, to avoid becoming “Girl Next”.
This is the new movie of Larry Wade Carrell, a filmmaker and actor who has been behind and in front of the cameras in the horror titles Jacob (2011) and She Rises (2016). Zeph E. Daniel, one of the writers of Society (1989) and Dementia (1999), and Michael Muscal, producer of KILD TV (2016), are the authors of the screenplay.
