The Paranormal Activity film saga has been one of the most prolific and profitable horror sagas of the last decades. It consists of 8 films, produced by Blumhouse Productions, that started with Paranormal Activity (2007), and was followed by Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014), Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015), Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021), and the Japanese sidequel Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night (2010). It also spawned into a digital comic called Paranormal Activity: The Search for Katie, released in December 2009, and the videogame Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul released on August 15, 2017, for Microsoft Windows and PS4.
Now, Candy Heart Productions and MasiMedia have developed a film documentary interviewing the cast and crew from the films entitled Unknown Dimension: The Story of Paranormal Activity (2021).
The film is described as “a deep dive into the making of the films with first time ever interviews with cast and crew, never-before-seen footage from the movies, and a preview of the seventh installment in the franchise, released at the same time as the documentary”.
The documentary has been written and directed by Joe Bandelli. He is a film, television, new media, and live writer, producer, and director, responsible for the horror film Cabin Fear (2015), and producer of Hell House LLC (2015) and the TV mini-series Bumbloods (2012).
Unknown Dimension: The Story of Paranormal Activity (2021) includes interviews and footage with the creator of the saga Oren Peli, the producers Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman, the filmmaker responsible for some entries in the saga Christopher Landon, actors Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Lauren Bittner, Brian Boland, Jorge Diaz, Molly Ephraim, Sprague Grayden, Andrew Jacobs, Brit Shaw, Matt Shively, Christopher Nicholas Smith, Renee Victor, Gabrielle Walsh, and other producers, actors, and directors involved in films of the saga.
