Surprise of the day: "Victor Crowley", "Hatchet" reboot, out this year

The mysterious new film in which Adam Green has been working on is nothing less than a Hatchet reboot! Green was the creator of the film series, and he wrote and directed the 2 first movies of the original trilogy, Hatchet (2006) and Hatchet II (2010), participating only as a writer and executive producer while his habitual camera operator BJ McDonnell directed Hatchet III (2013).

Yesterday Entertainment Weekly revealed the development of this new film for the Hatchet series, that works both as a sequel and a reboot, and that has the name of Victor Crowley (2017). The release date is set in the USA for next 22nd of September. Like in the previous titles, Kane Hodder gets again on the skin of vicious murderer Victor Crowley. With him, Parry Shen, Laura Ortiz, Dave Sheridan and Brian Quinn complete the main cast.

The events for Victor Crowley (2017) are set to happen 10 years after what happened in the first trilogy. In the words of Adam Green for Entertainment Weekly, “The only survivor that was ever found was Parry Shen’s character, Andrew Yong. Now, ten years, later, he’s kind of become a little bit of a celebrity. At one point he’s compared to ‘the OJ Simpson of Honey Island Swamp>’ because most people do not buy his story, but he got off because there was no evidence that he had done it. So, some people love him, a lot of people hate him, and now he’s written a book, which he is promoting on the tenth anniversary of the events of 2007. He is convinced to do one final interview back at the scene of the massacre, where he has never returned. Simultaneously to him going back there with this camera crew, that’s going to interview him, there is something else happening that brings back a little certain somebody“.

Victor Crowley (2017) premiered yesterday at Hollywood’s ArcLight Cinema as one of the acts for the Hatchet (2006) 10th Anniversary Celebration. The movie has also been confirmed to be screened at the upcoming FrightFest Festival. Other festivals and events worldwide are yet to confirm if they add the movie to their programs. And regarding the possibility of a fifth installation for the Hatchet franchise, Adam Green replied “we have to see how this one does first. If there’s a demand for it, then who knows? I mean, at this point, anything could happen”. After the expectation the news of this fourth entry is generating, it is wise to think fans are going to reply with enthusiasm. So perhaps we should get ready for more Hatchet massacres along the next decade. I honestly hope so! Let the blood run!
