It all started with Stargate (1994), starrying Kurt Russell and James Spader. Way before director Roland Emmerich embarked himself in crazy end-of-the-world epics like Independence Day (1996) or The Day After Tomorrow (2004), he co-wrote and directed this interesting science fiction tale about the discovering of an interstellar teleportation device, found in Egypt that leaded to a planet were a primitive sort of humans were enslaved and worshiping the god Ra. Yeah, like some sort of Prometheus (2012) “where do we all come from?”, but in my opinion with a most interesting point of view. After that, some TV series, a bunch of novels and directo to video feature films were made as following of this first installment of the story.
And now, it is been announced that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios are working on a prequel 10 episodes TV Series . The show, called Stargate Origins, will follow the steps of young Catherine Langford from when she embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate until the events portraited in the original movie. As a reminder, an old aged Catherine Langford, played by Viveca Lindfors in one of her last roles before her death at the age of 74 years old, was who hired Dr. Daniel Jackson to take the trip through the gate in the original film Stargate (1994).
The series will be available from the portal www.stargatecommand.co, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is yet unknown if other VoD platforms will have the distribution rights for the show. Regarding the site, the release date should be around this fall.
