A couple of years ago, Malasaña 32 (2020) became pretty popular in the Spanish horror scene providing a claustrophobic story slightly based on true facts and surrounding a family who moved into a new home with a dark supernatural secret. Loved by some and hated by others, the movie became one of the few titles in the country to survive in cinemas during the pre-COVID-19 pandemic disaster. Now, the writers and producers of that horror experience are delivering a new title, 13 exorcismos (2022), also based on supposed true facts, about spirits and exorcisms occurring in the country.
The movie centers on a young girl Laura Villegas, who after a session of spiritualism done on the eve of the Day of the Dead she suddenly starts behaving in a strange way. From then on, a series of paranormal events will follow the protagonists of the story with horrific consequences.
Jacobo Martínez, a cameraman and cinematographer who has participated in an extensive list of TV series and films, is debuting as the director of a feature film with 13 exorcismos (2022). The screenplay is written by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, David Orea, and Salvador S. Molina, the same team who wrote Malasaña 32 (2020), together with Teresa Fernández-Valdés and Carlos Ruano.
The main cast of the movie is formed by María Romanillos, Ruth Díaz, Urko Olazabal, Pablo Revuelta, José Sacristán, Cristina Castaño, and Silma López.
The movie had a Spanish theatrical release on November 4, 2022, where it has received mixed opinions.
