Le-Van Kiet is a Vietnamese-born filmmaker who recently made his transition to the American market with his sharks horror film The Requin (2022) starring Alicia Silverstone and James Tupper, and out on Amazon Primer Video early this year. But we didn’t have to wait for much more for him to deliver another horror film back to Vietnam because The Ancestral (2022) is coming out this month.
In the movie, after suffering a family tragedy, a widower named Thanh moves his two daughters to a centuries-old ancestral home. Both daughters fall prey to sleep paralysis and night terrors. Their father seeks the help of a local psychologist, but chilling secrets and visions eventually prove that all is not what it seems in the old family house.
The main cast is formed by Lam Thanh My, Quang Tuan, Mai Cát Vi, and Dieu Nhi.
After gaining some recognition with his martial-arts action thriller Furie (2019), Le-Van Kiet has made himself a name in the Vietnamese horror genre after being responsible for titles like House in the Alley (2012), Bay Cap 3 (2012), The Lost Tour: Vietnam (2014), and The Rich Woman (2016). He has been the producer, writer, and director of The Ancestral (2022).
The movie is out in Vietnam on March 18, 2022, and in other Asian countries one week after. We will have to wait for further confirmation of more international release dates.
The first official trailer for The Ancestral (2022) has been released a few hours ago and you can watch it here.
