Probably there is not a more horrible and annoying season than Christmas, but since we are slaves of consumerism and stupid religious traditions it is unavoidable that the theme takes over our shops, our streets, our mailboxes, and our cinemas. In Silent Night (2021) a couple and their children get ready to welcome friends and family for what promises to be a perfect Christmas gathering. Perfect except for one thing: everyone is going to die.
In true British fashion, (while the rest of the world faces impending doom), a group of old friends reunites to celebrate Christmas in the comfort of an idyllic country home. Burdened with the inconvenience of mankind’s imminent destruction, they adopt a stiff upper lip, crack open another bottle of prosecco and continue with their festivities. But no amount of stoicism can replace the courage needed for their last night on earth.
This is the debut feature film of writer and director Camille Griffin.
The main cast is filled with some recognizable faces as Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Lucy Punch, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Trudie Styler, Sope Dirisu, Holly Aird, Rufus Jones, Davida McKenzie, Dora Davis, and the director’s sons Roman Griffin Davis, Gilby Griffin Davis, and Hardy Griffin Davis.
