Well, it seems the cast survivors of the original Ghostbusters (1984) have already read the script for the planned sequel. And apparently, they all like it! Or at least that’s what the official sources state. Sigourney Weaver had already accepted to participate in the new movie, and now it’s made official that Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will also be in it.

Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original movie and its sequel Ghostbusters II (1989), has been ahead of the project since the beginning. Now it is only left to confirm if Ernie Hudson will also be in this follow-up of the 1980s movies, since Harold Ramis, the fourth original Ghostbuster, sadly past away in 2014, and Rick Moranis has been in retirement for over a decade.

Jason Reitman defined this upcoming Ghostbusters 3 (2020) as a “love letter” to the original movies, calling up to the fans of the saga and trying to revive that very special feeling the adventures of the paranormal scientists caused decades ago. An almost impossible task to accomplished, but if there are any people that could get close to achieving that it is them.

As you’ll know an attempt to reboot the saga with a new crew and new faces was done a few years ago with Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters (2016). The spirit of the original movies was there, with cameos of the original actors, good doses of action and comedy, and Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the supernatural hunters. Although the result was a fun and entertaining experience, the movie was a flop.

The screenplay for Ghostbusters 3 (2020) has been written by Jason Reitman himself together with Gil Kenan, director of Monster House (2006) and Poltergeist (2015). It will be a direct sequel of Ghostbusters II (1989), although the plot has not transcended yet.

Jason Reitman has proven in many titles that he is a competent filmmaker and not only the son of one of the most acclaimed adventures and comedy directors of the 1980s and 1990s. He grew up with his father Ivan Reitman making essential titles like Twins (1988), Kindergarten Cop (1990) or Evolution (2001), besides the Ghostbusters classics, so who could be better than him to carry on with this project. After the delicious Thank You for Smoking (2005), Juno (2007), Young Adult (2011) and the recent Tully (2018) Jason Reitman will now face what probably is the most significative challenge of his career.

The filming of Ghostbusters 3 (2020) is scheduled to start in the following weeks, and the movie is planned to come out in next year’s summer season.
