Horror-centered streaming platform Shudder continues adding to their catalog international movies that can scare the shit out of us and still maintain a more than acceptable level of quality. This week it is the turn of Spanish-language Argentina and Uruguay zombies production Virus-32 (2022).
In the movie, a virus breaks out and a chilling massacre rages through the streets. The sick become hunters, and only calm their fever by unscrupulously killing all those not yet infected. Unaware of this, Iris and her daughter spend the day in the sports club where Iris works as a security guard. When night falls, their fight for survival beings. Their only hope of salvation arrives when they discover that after each attack, the infected seem to stop for 32 seconds of calm before attacking again.
This is the new movie of writer and director Gustavo Hernández, who got world recognition in the horror genre with his debut feature film The Silent House (2010) aka La Casa Muda, nominated for the Golden Camera and C.I.C.A.E. Awards in the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. He’s also been behind Local God (2014) and awards-winner You Shall Not Sleep (2018). His frequent collaborator Juma Fodde is the co-writer of the screenplay.
Daniel Hendler, Berlinale Silver Berlin Bear winner for his performance in El abrazo partido (2004) aka Lost Embrace, and Paula Silva, the star of thriller In the Quarry (2019), form the main cast that also includes Rasjid César and Sofía González.
Virus-32 (2022) had its premiere in Uruguay earlier this month and premieres worldwide exclusively on Shudder on April 21, 2022. Watch here its official trailer.
