Shudder is releasing "Spoonful of Sugar" where a babysitter discovers the dark secrets of the family she's ailing

Spoonful of Sugar (2022) has been compared with some babysitter-subgenre titles like The Hand that Rocks the Cradle (1992) or Emelie (2015) and even with the demonic cult classic The Omen (1976).

It centers on Millicent, a young woman who is taking a semester off from her studies to concentrate on her thesis about children with severe allergies. That makes her the perfect person to take care of little Johnny, a sickly, mute child who suffers from every allergy under the sun, from a nickel to artificial fabric. His overbearing mother, Rebecca, is an accomplished author who is focused on her latest book release, while his dissatisfied father, Jacob, spends sweaty, shirtless days toiling away on a carpentry project in the backyard.

This is the debut feature of former music videos and short film director Mercedes Bryce Morgan, who recently has released her new drama-thriller film Fixation (2022). She is also the co-writer of the screenplay together with Leah Saint Marie.

The main cast of Spoonful of Sugar (2022) is formed by Morgan Saylor, Kat Foster, Myko Olivier, Danilo Crovetti, Keith Powell, Laura Coover, Shon Wilson, and David Yow.

The movie has been part of some festivals including Fantastic Fest, which was its world premiere, the Cucalorus Film Festival, and the Winter Film Awards. Shudder has the distribution rights and has scheduled it for a release on March 2, 2023.
