Popular streaming content platform Netflix goes on with their betting on science-fiction and horror productions to add them in exclusivity to their Netflix Originals catalog. For this year’s Christmas season one of the genre biggest releases they have scheduled is Bird Box (2018), a drama with a science-fiction background and a high dosage of horror about a woman and a pair of children are blindfolded and make their way through a dystopian setting along a river.
Often compared with the recent and successful A Quiet Place (2018) due to its plot resemblance, Bird Box (2018) is set in the wake of an unknown global terror where a mother must find the strength to flee with her children down a treacherous river in search of safety. Due to unseen deadly forces that bring to life ones’ biggest inner fears, the perilous journey must be made blindly. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Josh Malerman. Eric Heisserer, known for the screenplays for The Thing (2011), Arrival (2016) and Lights Out (2016), was in charge of writing the adaptation.
Bird Box (2018) was directed by Primetime Emmy winner for the TV series The Night Manager (2016–2018) Susanne Bier. She had at her orders were Oscar winner Sandra Bullock on her first role in a horror film, and Golden Globe winner for TV series American Crime Story (2016– ) Sarah Paulson. With them, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, BD Wong, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Rebecca Pidgeon also starred.
Bird Box (2018) had its world premiere at AFI Fest last November where it achieved a good amount of positive reviews. Netflix has scheduled for the 21st of December its release worldwide to be part of their catalog. The second trailer for the movie is already out and you can watch it here:
