Death Wish (2018) is going to be the first movie by Eli Roth away from the genres of horror. The American filmmaker, that so many great surprises has given us with his gory pieces Cabin Fever (2002), Hostel (2005), Hostel: Part II (2007) or The Green Inferno (2013) already showed a good eye for stories that flirted strong with drama thrillers with his recent Knock Knock (2015). Now, with Death Wish (2018) he immerses himself in the seas of crime action thrillers with a movie of classic features.
“Dr. Paul Kersey is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence as it’s rushed into his ER -until his wife and college-age daughter are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grab the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel…or a grim reaper. Fury and fate collide in the intense action-thriller Death Wish (2018)”, says the official press note from producers Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).
The movie, that is expected to hit theaters worldwide in March this year, is based on the homonymous 1972 novel by Brian Garfield, and also serves as some sort of a remake of Death Wish (1974). The screenplay is written by Joe Carnahan, better known for penning other adrenaline thrillers like The A-Team (2010), Smokin’ Aces (2006) or Narc (2002). Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Dean Norris, Kimberly Elise, Jack Kesy, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Mike Epps, Beau Knapp and Camila Morrone star the movie.
