We have already seen many, so I guess it’s a question that could bring different answers. What would be your favorite zombified animal horror movie? I think I go for Zombeavers (2014) and Black Sheep (2006). But we’ve had zombie slugs in Night of the Creeps (1986), zombie chicken in Troma’s Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006), a zombie crocodile in A Zombie Croc: Evil Has Been Summoned (2015), zombie dinosaurs in Z/Rex: The Jurassic Dead (2017), a zombie cat in Pet Sematary (1989), zombie Dobermans and a zombie cow in different entries of the Resident Evil saga, and all kinds of zoo animals in Zoombies (2016). But that is not enough, now it’s time to go underseas.
The plot of Aquarium of the Dead (2021) gets told very easily and simply. A scientific accident causes sea creatures in an aquarium to become zombies. The group of researchers won’t be able to escape the facility so they will have to try to survive against the collection of mutated marine animals, this time walking out of the water.
This The Asylum production is directed by Glenn Miller, who must have a degree in animal zombiology since he has been behind Zoombies (2016) and its sequel Zoombies 2 (2019). He has also been assistant director in almost a hundred titles including Airline Disaster (2010), Zombie Apocalypse (2011), Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark (2014), Stormageddon (2015), Toxic Shark (2017), and some Sharknado films. Another The Asylum alumni Marc Gottlieb is the author of the screenplay based on a story by Michael Varrati, the writer of Tales of Poe (2014), The Sins of Dracula (2014), and Flesh for the Inferno (2015).
Vivica A. Fox, who has starred in hundreds of b-movies but has also find her way into hits like Independence Day (1996), Batman & Robin (1997), and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), heads the main cast that also includes D.C. Douglas, Erica Duke, Eva Ceja, Jeffery Thomas Johnson, Madeleine Falk, Anthony Jensen, Anna Telfer, Ash Dadvand, and Rishi Arya.
Aquarium of the Dead (2021) is scheduled to come out in the official The Asylum channels on May 21, 2021. Here you can watch its official trailer.
