Every now and then we get a new version of the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). The first one was Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) by Philip Kaufman, who for many was even superior to the original. Then, Abel Ferrara made his own version with the failed Body Snatchers (1993), and The Invasion (2007) served as a vehicle to establish a post-Casino Royale (2006) Daniel Craig as an efficient blockbuster star alongside Nicole Kidman. This year it is the turn of The Changed (2021), where a group of ordinary people band together in a suburban home to battle imposters who have replaced their families, friends, and neighbors.
In the movie, something has taken possession of the hearts and minds of the populace. Kim, Mac, and Jane try to convince themselves it’s paranoia, but before long the city is besieged by the changed. By the time they realize an alien intelligence has merged with their neighbor, Bill, a horde of changed is amassing outside their suburban home.
This is the new movie of Michael Mongillo, who was behind the science-fiction Welcome to Earth (2005), comedy Being Michael Madsen (2007), and supernatural horror Diane (2017). He has been also the writer of the screenplay together with his frequent collaborator Matt Giannini.
The main cast of The Changed (2021) is led by Clare Foley, known for her appearings in Sinister (2012) and the Gotham (2014–2019) TV series, and horror icon Tony Todd, who has been in uncountable horror movies including the sagas Candyman, Final Destination, and Hatchet, The Crow (1994), Wishmaster (1997), and Sushi Girl (2012) just to name a few titles. Jason Alan Smith, Carlee Avers, Doug Tompos, Olivia Freer, Kathy Searle, Nina Wisner, Margaret Rose Champagne, and Ryan Barry McCarthy complete the main cast.
The Changed (2021) had its European premiere at Frightfest on August 27, 2021, and today is taking part in the Screamfest Horror Film Festival in the USA. Here you can watch its official trailer.
