Honestly, this is a catchy headline, isn’t it? Who wouldn’t be interested in a hybrid between two horror classics like Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and James Wan’s Saw (2004)? Because in Blood in the Water (2022), a young woman, guilt-ridden for a crime she committed but got away with, is captured by a sadist for a game of Russian roulette with a great white shark and four similar opportunists who have escaped the law.
In the movie, Zara is a young woman with a dark secret. She spends her days obsessing over the details of her husband’s imprisonment, and the woman that he allegedly killed. But this is abruptly interrupted by a masked sociopath who breaks into her flat, knocks her out, and chains her up to a swimming pool along with five strangers. Soon, they realize they are not alone as the final member of the congregation is revealed: a terrifying Great White Shark. The game of the unseen sociopath then becomes clear as each of them is chosen to be dragged into the pool to become shark food.
Dominic Nutter has directed the movie. He is also responsible for another smash-up fantasy and horror title out this year, Jurassic Island (2022). Blood in the Water (2022) has been written by Matthew B.C. (Exorcist Vengeance (2022), The Offering (2022), Medusa (2020)), and Dominic Ellis, a cinematographer who has participated in other similar productions like It Came from Below (2021) and Beneath the Surface (2022).
Hannah Ponting, Brendan Jones, Jamie Robertson, Amanda-Jade Tyler, Andrew Rolfe, Georgie Banks, Michael Hoad, Beatrice Fletcher, and Heronimo Sehmi form the main cast.
Blood in the Water (2022) is already available on DVD and on digital. Here you can watch its official trailer.
