The Red Ghost (2020), also known as Red Ghost: Nazi Hunter, is a Russian war movie where real history happenings are modified slightly to add a yummy touch of ficticious horror. Like what Hollywood did in Overlord (2018) but in Soviet style.
Vyazma, USSR. WWII, 1941. A mythical lone-wolf fighter, known as The Red Ghost, roams the Russian forests sniping and killing Nazis one by one. He’s so destructive that a special unit of the Nazis’ Wehrmacht is ordered to search for and kill him. Simultaneously, a band of Soviet soldiers behind enemy lines trudge through the snow, hopeful to find safety, warmth and vodka. Instead, they find themselves trapped at a farm and surrounded by the Wehrmacht unit against whom they must fight to the death – but not without the help of The Red Ghost.
Entitled Krasnyy Prizrak in its origian Russian language, this is the new movie of filmmaker Andrey Bogatyrev, known for his awards-winner drama movies Iuda (2013) and BAgI (2011). He has been also co-writer of the screenplay together with Oleg Bogatov, also the creative producer, and Pavel Abramenkov, who plays a supporting role in the film.
The main cast for The Red Ghost (2020) is formed by Aleksey Shevchenkov, Vladimir Gostyukhin, Yuriy Borisov, Polina Chernyshova, Wolfgang Cerny, Mikhail Gorevoy, and Olga Stashkevich.
The Red Ghost (2020) had its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival on October 3, 2020, and it’s been released in digital and DVD on several European countries. Now it is scheduled on a global digital release on February 15, 2022, by Dark Sky Films. Watch the trailer here.
