Akatsuki Entertainment is an American film production branch of Japanese gaming firm Akatsuki, and supernatural horror thriller Room 203 (2022) is their latest project. The movie centers on two best friends and roommates who are terrified by the vengeful spirits dwelling in their apartment.

When best friends Kim and Izzy move into a dark and mysterious apartment, they become convinced their new home is haunted by evil spirits. As they investigate the tortured history, they unearth a terrifying past of disappearances, demonic rituals, and possessions that plagued every former tenant of Room 203.

This is the new movie from writer and director Ben Jagger, an awards-winner filmmaker thanks to his debut sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll drama feature film The Paddy Lincoln Gang (2014). He’s also responsible for horror-thriller Corbin Nash (2018). Jagger has been the writer of the screenplay together with John Poliquin, the director of Grave Encounters 2 (2012) and producer of Still/Born (2017) and Spiral (2019), based on the Japanese novel by Kobunsha Publishing and written by Nanami Kamon.

Room 203 (2022) is starring Francesca Xuereb, Viktoria Vinyarska, Eric Wiegand, Scott Gremillion, Rick LaCour, Quinn Nehr, Sam A Coleman, Timothy McKinney, Patrick Kirton, Susan Kirton, Terry J. Nelson, Jeroen Frank Kales, and Cameron Inman.

Akatsuki Entertainment president Annmarie Sairrino shared her perspective of the movie. “The apartment is a decrepit, but amazing American Gothic. But there’s an ever-present smell of rot, eerie sounds and noises”, she said. “As the warning signs mount, one of the women tries to look for rational explanations, but finds that she and her friend are pulled deeper into the dark history – involving murder, a sinister deity, and a ticking clock of Room 203”.

Vertical Entertainment is releasing the movie on April 14, 2022, in limited theaters and digital. Watch the official trailer for Room 203 (2022) here.
