Next July is when this long awaited for the fans adaptation for the manga created by Yukito Kishiro will see the light. But now, we can already share the first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel (2018).
The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez based on a script written by Rodriguez together with James Cameron and his longtime collaborator Laeta Kalogridis, who also have the roles of producers of the film. Alita: Battle Angel (2018) will be a combination of the first four books in Yukito Kishiro‘s series of manga books (“Motorball” from books 3 and 4, and the story from books 1 and 2), stated James Cameron. It’s been also said that if this film reaches the expectations, he hopes to make another two “Battle Angel” films.
In September 2016, Variety reported that the movie will have a budget between $175 million and $200 million which makes it the biggest budget that Robert Rodriguez has ever had. Even though it’s a live-action film, most of the effects will be done with CG animation. In fact, it’s been reported that the movie will include roughly 1,500 visual effects shots.
Alita: Battle Angel (2018) is set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first. As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo, offers instead to help trigger her memories. A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.
