Maybe it is because we are poor like rats (or, at least, I am. I truly am). But I’ve always thought rich people live in another reality, with their huge mansions, their hordes of service people, more possessions that they will ever need in several lifetimes, and their games, their crazy surrealistic games. Because it seems like rich people really like to play all the time, do they? And it seems these things are some of the thoughts that will pass by the head of the protagonist of today’s story when she is taking the big step of marrying the children of one of those insultingly rich and eccentric families.
Ready or Not (2019) tells the story of a young woman as she joins her new husband’s rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition becomes a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. The wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game. The hide-and-seek game rarely has been so dreadful.
Samara Weaving plays Grace, the bride that sees how the day of her dreams turns into a real nightmare. Despite her young age and short career, the Australian actress has become one of those interesting faces in a good bunch of new horror productions, being the star of Mayhem (2017), The Babysitter (2017) and Ash vs Evil Dead (2015–2018). Andie MacDowell, Mark O’Brien, Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Nicky Guadagni, Melanie Scrofano, Kristian Bruun, Elyse Levesque, John Ralston, Daniela Barbosa, Elana Dunkelman, Hanneke Talbot and Celine Tsai complete the main cast.
Ready or Not (2019) is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who after a bunch of short films, the segment “10/31/98” in V/H/S (2012) and horror mystery Devil’s Due (2014) continue with their collaborations together. Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy have been the authors of the screenplay. The movie is produced by Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Bradley J. Fischer.
Principal photography for Ready or Not (2019) began October 15, 2018, and concluded on November 19, 2018. The 26-day shoot took place at various locations around the Toronto, Ontario area, including Casa Loma, Sunnybrook Park and the Claireville Conservation Area, as well as the Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario. The movie is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2019. Fox Searchlight Pictures, the international distributors of the movie, published the trailer for Ready or Not (2019) yesterday.
