Marionette (2020) is not a movie about an evil possessed doll, no, not this time. It is a fitting take on the popular saying of “being controlled like a puppet” in the terms of a psychological thriller where a therapist loses her grip on reality when a ten-year-old boy claims he can control her future.
Marionette (2020) is the second feature of filmmaker Elbert van Strien, known for the movie Two Eyes Staring (2010) and writer and director of several award-winning short including De marionettenwereld (1993) from which this movie is based on. He has been the author of the screenplay together with Ben Hopkins.
The movie is starred by Thekla Reuten, a Dutch actress who has been seen some Hollywood movies placed in Center Europe like In Bruges (2008), The American (2010), and Red Sparrow (2018). Together with her, Peter Mullan, Emun Elliott, Bill Paterson, Rebecca Front, Sam Hazeldine, Pearl Chanda, Dawn Steele, Marnie Baxter, Elisabet Johannesdottir, and Elijah Wolf also star.
Marionette (2020) is out since this month on Video on Demand and is scheduled to be part of the Nederlands Film Festival on the 29th of September. Here you can watch its trailer.
