Dimension Films purchased the rights to produce a long length feature version of the short film Polaroid (2015), written and directed by Lars Klevberg. It was Klevberg himself who also was in charge of the direction of the English language version of his Norwegian short film, with Blair Butler penning the screenplay. The movie was completed last year and had a theoretical theatrical release scheduled on August 25, 2017. Then was pushed to December 1, 2017. And then, due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal, who was a former owner of Dimension Films, the movie was put on hold indefinitely.
Recently we have known that Netflix has bought the distribution rights for Polaroid (2019). The release date for the film as part of the popular streaming service is still unknown, but it might probably happen between the end of 2018 and the beginning of next year. It is confirmed that the movie will be available for the American territory, but if it becomes part of the Netflix Originals catalog it will most likely be accessible worldwide.
In Polaroid (2019), high school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the mysterious Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end. Styled in the vein of The Ring (2002) and Final Destination (2000), the teenager soon learns that the camera houses a terrible secret: whoever has their picture taken by it meets a tragic and violent end.
