A movie critic said about filmmaker Fred Olen Ray that his films are “rushed, cheap, and sleazy, but you can’t help but love them“. Well, that’s easy to understand with the amount of B-movie science-fiction, horror, and creature flicks he has exposed us to in his long and prolific career. The main plot of Piranha Women (2022), his latest effort, reads “Terror rides on high tides in this sexy and outrageous tale of science run amok that’s even madder than ‘Moreau’”. Well, we already are aware of what to expect here.
After watching the trailer we see how an experimental medical treatment based on injecting piranha DNA into the female patients causes them some sort of a mutation and transformation, not only in their moods and behaviors but also physical and nutritional. That’s a whole new description of what you would think of a female man-eater.
Fred Olen Ray, who has in his background the authoring of other disaster, horror, and science-fiction fun mash-ups like Collision Course (2012), Super Shark (2011), Turbulent Skies (2010), Twilight Vamps (2010), Bikini Frankenstein (2010), and Silent Venom (2009), to name a few recent ones, has written and directed Piranha Women (2022).
The main cast is formed by Carrie Overgaard, Sof Puchley, Bobby Rice, Keep Chambers, and Nathaniel Moore.
Piranha Women (2022) has been announced as the beginning of a “two-part exploitation epic”, and it will be released on the Full Moon Features platform on June 17, 2022, and on Amazon Prime Video a week after, on June 24.
