Nails (2017) might not be the most interesting title of the season, but it’s surelly a decent horror flick with some attractive facts. Perhaps, the most interesting one of these facts is the main star of the film, Shauna Macdonald, one of the most underrated and loved actresses in the horror scene of the last years thanks to titles like The Descent (2005), The Descent: Part 2 (2009) and the more recent Howl (2015).
As debutant director and writer Dennis Bartok says, Nails (2017) is about “Dana Milgrom (Shauna Macdonald), a track coach and mother who’s survived a near-death car accident, only to find herself paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. Forced to communicate via an artificial voice program and hooked to a breathing machine, she becomes convinced that a terrifying presence called Nails exists inside her hospital room. No one believes her – not even her own husband, who think she’s experiencing a mental breakdown. As her marriage disintegrates and her grip on reality starts to shred, Dana fights to convince the doctors and staff that Nails is real and intent on destroying her.”
The film had its premiere this past February at the Dublin International Film Festival 2017 where the young supporting actress Leah McNamara was nominated for the Best Discovery Award.
Hopefully some Video on Demand platform (Netflix maybe?) achieve the distribution rights for Nails (2017) so it can reach our homes and our eyes. Meanwhile, here are the official trailer and poster:
