Nic Cage's grimace festival in the first trailer for "Mom and Dad"

Mom and Dad (2017) are coming out in American theaters next January but some of us already had the pleasure to watch it at Sitges Film Festival this year. The movie was written and directed by Brian Taylor, a filmmaker that has been proving his immense talent in high octane entertaining films since his debut title Crank (2006), starring then upgrowing action superstar Jason Statham. After that, the mandatory sequel where he exploited his crazy ideas and fast pace music video style action with Crank: High Voltage (2009). His latest movie until date, and last one with his fellow co-director Mark Neveldine, was Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), that awful comic adaptation where he met the star, Nicolas Cage. And it is Cage who is in charge to star this new film Mom and Dad (2017).

In Mom and Dad (2017), a teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn violently on their own kids. The audience members that have children will understand it, I assume. And the premise of this movie is as dramatic as funny, because don’t you feel like life is leaking out of our hands? Growing old is a cruel thing, and director Brian Taylor has proven to be aware of that, and take it with a good dosage of a sense of humor.

A more histrionic than ever Nicolas Cage, Selma Blair, Anne Winters, Joseph D. Reitman, Rachel Melvin, Olivia Crocicchia, Zackary Arthur, Samantha Lemole and a small but hilarious cameo of Lance Henriksen are the acting ingredients of this adrenaline cocktail that made bursting into laughter the audience of some of the most important film festivals of the season like Toronto International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest or the already mentioned Sitges Film Festival.
