It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time-stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.

This is the plot of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019), the new movie of Norwegian filmmaker André Øvredal, responsible of Trollhunter (2010) and the extremely creepy and scary The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), and produced by the pervasiveness in fantasy productions Guillermo del Toro, serving here as producer and co-creator of the story.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) is based on the children’s book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz. Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, two of the writers of The Lego Movie (2014), have been the authors of the final screenplay.

Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint and Javier Botet as The Toe Monster are the stars of the film. Principal production commenced on August 27, 2018, and ended on November 1, 2018, in Ontario, Canada. The film is set to be released on August 9, 2019.
