Dark Phoenix (2019), the new entry in the second generation of the X-Men saga, where James McAvoy is Professor Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender is Magneto, is arriving at the big screens worldwide the first weekend of June. This time, the main star of the show is the character of Jean Grey and her alter-ego Phoenix. In this new movie, Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.
This new movie is the follow-up for X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). It marks the debut of filmmaker Simon Kinberg as a director. He’s not a novice in the Marvel universe, especially in the X-Men franchise, since he’s been producer and writer of several of the mutant super-heroes titles, as well as other movies like Jumper (2008) or Fantastic Four (2015). He has also been a producer of big blockbusters like Elysium (2013), The Martian (2015) or Deadpool (2016). Besides directing he is also the author of the screenplay based on The Dark Phoenix Saga story by John Byrne, Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum.
A part of the mentioned Professor X and Magneto, the rest of the actors playing the mutants are Sophie Turner as Jean Grey / Phoenix, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven / Mystique, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers / Cyclops, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy / Beast, Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver, Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe / Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler. Together with them, Jessica Chastain, Hannah Emily Anderson, Scott Shepherd, Daniel Cudmore and Ato Essandoh complete the main cast.
