Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) is the follow-up for Godzilla (2014), directed by Gareth Edwards, which regarding making a profitable box office achieved mixed opinions in the audience and critics. In the sequel, The crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.
Gareth Edwards, the director of the first movie of the reboot saga, was supposed to also be in charge of the sequel but he eventually dropped out in order to direct Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). The job got passed to Michael Dougherty, who debuted with a modest but interesting horror film in the old school style Trick ‘r Treat (2007) and continued with the positive surprise that was his dark creepy version of Krampus (2015). Now, this is his first huge budget movie and rumors say it is going to be better and more spectacular than its predecessor. In fact, Dougherty rewrote the script together with his frequent co-writer Zach Shields and Max Borenstein, writer of Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017).
Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe are the only main actors to reprise their roles in this sequel. Together with them, Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Aisha Hinds, Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance and Ziyi Zhang complete the main cast. The movie will be Rated PG-13 for sequences of monster action violence and destruction, and for some language.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) is the second installment of the new planned trilogy based on the popular monster created by Tomoyuki Tanaka, Ishirō Honda and Eiji Tsubaraya first appearing in the classic Japanese kaiju film Godzilla (1954). It will be followed by Godzilla vs. Kong (2020), which is already filming with Adam Wingard on the director’s chair, and with Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role and co-starring Alexander Skarsgård.
The movie will open in theaters worldwide the last weekend of May, and distributors have shared in the last hours the new official trailer. So, find here the new and spectacular trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019):
