As I asume every fan of horror movies know, a new version of IT (1990) is on the works. Producers have tried to keep the project as much controled and silent as possible, but nowadays it’s inevitable that sooner or later an image or a piece of the script gets leaked. So this is what we got now, a still of Bill Skarsgård portraying the eternal Pennywise.
Many voices claimed on the past years that nobody could replace Tim Curry as Pennywise. While the original Stephen King adaptation of his homonymous novel IT released as a 2 episodes mini series in 1990 was never an audience and claim huge success, everybody agreed that Tim Curry’s portrait of the demonic clown Pennywise was by far the biggest and pretty much only asset of the film. So now, in a time where ideas lack, is it necessary to reboot this title? I think not, but yet they did it.
Andrés Muschietti is behind the camera. Maybe a not very known name but his only released film until the date Mama (2013) has brought nightmares to a big segment of the population. Are those credentials enough to bring dignity to one of Stephen King’s minor adaptations? We will know later this year.
