Netflix releases this week "Jung_E", the new SciFi film by "Train to Busan"’s director

Yeon Sang-ho, the South Korean filmmaker who raise the stardom thanks to his adrenalinic zombie action horror Train to Busan (2016), is returning with a new title, this time with a post-apocalyptic science-fiction film in the times of robotics and war.

Jung_E (2023) is set in the 22nd century, in the year 2194, where climate change has caused the planet to become uninhabitable and humans live within a man-made shelter. A war takes place within the shelter. Jung Yi is the elite leader of the allied forces. She becomes the subject of a brain cloning experiment. The cloning experiment is a potential key to winning the war. Victory – meaning the end of the war – now hinges on finding a way to clone the legendary mercenary Jung_E into a scalable robot.

Yeon Sang-ho, who was also responsible for Train to Busan (2016) sequel Peninsula (2020), the science-fiction drama Psychokinesis (2018), and the animation films Seoul Station (2016) and The Fake (2013), has been the writer and director of Jung_E (2023).

The main cast of the film is formed by Kim Hyun-joo in the title role, Ryu Kyung-Soo, Park So-yi, and the late South Korean star Kang Soo-yeon, who returned in front of the cameras after a nine-year gap and this marks her final film before her passing on May 7, 2022.

Netflix has the distribution rights for the movie and has set it for a release as part of their Originals catalog on January 20, 2023.
