If you like action thrillers and empowered women flicks, you should mark to the calendar next Wednesday since Netflix is releasing Gunpowder Milkshake (2021). In it, three generations of women fight back against those who could take everything from them.
In her turbulent life as a professional assassin, Scarlet was cruelly forced to abandon her daughter Sam and go on the run. Years later, despite the estrangement, Sam has also grown up into a cold-blooded hitwoman. After a high-stake mission spins out of control, putting an innocent 8-year-old girl in the middle of the gang war she has unleashed, Sam has no choice but to go rogue. This ultimately leads her back to her mother and her former hitwomen sidekicks, who all join forces in an avenging war against those who took everything from them.
This is the new movie from Navot Papushado, after the audience and critics acclaimed Rabies (2010) and Big Bad Wolves (2013), and being responsible for the segment “F is for Falling” in ABCs of Death 2 (2014). He is also the author of the screenplay together with debutant Ehud Lavski.
The main cast of Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) is headed by a bunch of popular faces, including Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Oculus (2013)), Carla Gugino (Watchmen (2009), Gerald’s Game (2017)), Lena Headey (Dredd (2012), 300 (2006)), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)), and Angela Bassett (Strange Days (1995), Contact (1997)). Together with them, Freya Allan, Paul Giamatti, Ralph Ineson, Chloe Coleman, Joanna Bobin, and Michael Smiley also star.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) was announced during the annual American Film Market in April 2018, with StudioCanal and The Picture Company procuring the rights to the film. Filming began on June 3, 2019, and finished on August 20, 2019, in Berlin. In April 2021, Netflix bought the distribution rights for the film and scheduled it for a release on July 14, 2021, in the USA and some other territories. Here you can the final trailer.
