American filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood is better known for her successful and awards-winner drama-oriented films Disappearing Acts (2000), Love & Basketball (2000), The Secret Life of Bees (2008), and Beyond the Lights (2014), as well as many TV series and a few short films. But her latest film to date is an action and fantasy comic book adaptation that is coming up today, The Old Guard (2020), about a covert team of immortal mercenaries that are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.

In the movie, led by a warrior named Andy, a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile, the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

The Old Guard (2020) is based on the comic book of the same name created by Greg Rucka, one of the big comic names who has worked in popular numbers of Action Comics, Batwoman, Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton. He has also worked TV series such as Stumptown (2019– ) and has released his graphic novel Lazarus, and the Atticus Kodiak series of novels. He has also been responsible for the screenplay for the movie adaptation for The Old Guard (2020).

Charlize Theron stars in The Old Guard (2020) as Andy / Andromache of Scythia. Together with her, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, Natacha Karam, Mette Towley, Anamaria Marinca, Micheal Ward, Shala Nyx, Majid Essaidi, and Joey Ansah also star.

Skydance Media purchased the rights to adapt The Old Guard comic book back in March 2017 and hired director Gina Prince-Bythewood to be in charge of the production. Filming in Europe in mid-May 2019. Netflix has the exclusive release rights for the movie and it will be part of the Netflix Originals catalog from the 10th of July 2020.
