After premiering in several world wide festivals along 2016 recieving mainly positive reviews, yesterday (Tuesday the 17th of January) we got the confirmation of the commercial release of Colossal (2016). Official releasing date made public is 7th of April in North American theatres. We still have to wait for the official release dates everywhere else in the world, but it is expected to be around next spring.
Colossal is the fourth film by spanish director Nacho Vigalondo, his second one in english language after Open Windows (2014) starring Sasha Grey and Elijah Wood. Like with the rest of his filmography, Colossal is also written by Vigalondo himself. It tells the story of a woman as she discovers that severe catastrophic events are somehow connected to the mental breakdown from which she’s suffering. Starred by Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis among others, is Vigalondo’s most international release until date. Godzilla-like monsters devastating the city of Tokyo, strange events happening, mentally unstable characters brought to their own personal limits and, of course, the doses of comedy present in all Vigalondo’s films are the ingredients for one of the most interesting cocktails of the past season.
