"Murder, Anyone?": Two writers see how their new screenplay comes to life

What is the story behind the horror comedy Murder, Anyone? (2022)? It is said that In the latter part of Gordon Bressack‘s life, he spent much of his own time writing and putting on plays with his own money. James Cullen Bressack, his son, used to always tell his father it would make more sense to spend the money turning the plays into movies as they would have a chance to make money. That conversation was the inspiration for the play, and James Cullen Bressack self-financed the movie and made it in honor of his father, Gordon Bressack‘s memory.

And what is Murder, Anyone? (2022) about? It centers on two playwrights, George and Charlie, who are tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noir thriller”. As they write, the story comes to life in real-time. However, their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns that affect the entire movie. Filled with hilarity and chaos, Murder, Anyone? (2022) is a comedic play-within-a-play-within-a-movie that contemplates the complexities of language, art, theater, film, and more.

James Cullen Bressack, the producer, director, and son, is a prolific awards-winner filmmaker who has been behind titles like the horror My Pure Joy (2011), Hate Crime (2012), 13/13/13 (2013), Pernicious (2014), Deadly Reunion (2016), Bethany (2017), and Blood Craft (2019), the thrillers Beyond the Law (2019), Captors (2020), Survive the Game (2021), Fortress (2021), and Hot Seat (2022), and several segments in horror anthologies. Gordon Bressack, the writer and father, was also an awards-winner filmmaker better known for the screenplays for several animated TV shows, some of them to become classics, like The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985–1986), Snorks (1984–1988), Yogi’s Treasure Hunt (1985–1988), DuckTales (1987–1990), The Smurfs (1981–1989), The Real Ghostbusters (1986–1991), Tiny Toon Adventures (1990–1995), and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993), and segments in the horror anthologies Dark Tales (2017), Virus of the Dead (2018), and Tales from the Other Side (2022).
