No one will be surprised if one of the next franchises to be over exploited with several sequels, spin-offs and all kinds of installments with classic monsters are going to be starred by The Mummy. Early this June the movie The Mummy (2017) will hit theaters all over the world, and yesterday the people from Syfy Wire released a sneak peek of one of the side characters expected to be the protagonists of its own series of films: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, incarnated by Russell Crowe.
The official plot written by Universal Pictures reads “Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess, whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension”. The movie is starred by Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Russell Crowe, Chasty Ballesteros, Jake Johnson and Javier Botet.
The Mummy (2017) is written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie, who has also been the writer of other Tom Cruise films like Valkyrie (2008), Jack Reacher (2012), Edge of Tomorrow (2014) or Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), and also the currently filming sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Behind the camera is Alex Kurtzman who is not new in this game of big budget blockbusters. An experienced producer, with titles like TV series Xena: Warrior Princess (1995–2001) and Sleepy Hollow (2013- 2017), or feature films Star Trek (2009), Cowboys & Aliens (2011) and Ender’s Game (2013) on his back. Also, he is in charge of the newest movie in the Spiderman universe, Venom (2018), currently in pre-production.
