A dark fairy tale story, placed in the current times but with the ingredients of witchcraft and cult horror films. With a very delicate treatment of images and art, looking for the most beautiful darkness to embarking the viewers in a supernatural terrain when demonic forces take control of your inner fears. That is the presentation card for The Wretched (2019).
In the movie, a defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, faces off with a thousand-year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of and posing as the woman next door.
The Wretched (2019) is the second feature movie written and directed by Brett Pierce and Drew T. Pierce after horror-comedy Deadheads (2011), which won the Best Comedy award in Toronto After Dark Film Festival back in 2011. The movie is starred by John-Paul Howard, Piper Curda, Jamison Jones, Azie Tesfai, Zarah Mahler, Kevin Bigley, Gabriela Quezada Bloomgarden, Richard Ellis, Blane Crockarell, Judah Abner Paul, Ja’layah Washington, and Amy Waller.
The Wretched (2019) has had extensive film festivals run this year, where it has achieved mostly positive reactions. It was nominated to the Cheval Noir award for Best Film in Fantasia Film Festival in Canada, and it has also been part of the line-up of FrightFest in the UK, HARD: LINE Film Festival in Germany, Monsterfest Melbourne in Australia and most recently in the well known by the filmmakers Canadian Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
