Despite its modest budget, the violent thriller Becky (2020) became one of the box office surprises in 2020 also collecting mainly positive reviews and achieving an almost cult status. The movie told the story of a teenager’s weekend at a lake house with her father that takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts wreaks havoc on their lives. And, as it’s easy to expect in these cases, a sequel was shortly greenlit.
The new movie, entitled The Wrath of Becky (2023), is set two years after she escaped the violent attack on her family. Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman, a kindred spirit named Elena. But when a group known as the “Noble Men” break into their home, attack them and take her beloved dog, Diego, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.
The new movie is directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, who have also been behind the horror thrillers Hypnotic (2021) and The Open House (2018). They have also been the writers of the screenplay together with Nick Morris, the writer of the original film.
Lulu Wilson, who is becoming one of the young most prolific actresses in horror movies having starred in Deliver Us from Evil (2014), Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Haunting of Hill House (2018), and The Clinic (2018) despite her young age, reprises her role of Becky. Seann William Scott, Courtney Gains, Gabriella Piazza, Aaron Dalla Villa, Michael Sirow, Alison Cimmet, John D. Hickman, and the co-director Matt Angel complete the main cast.
The Wrath of Becky (2023) is having its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 11, 2023. The official trailer for the movie has not been shared yet but to warm up the motors we can remember the trailer for Becky (2020).
