"Legions", the Argentinian response to "Evil Dead", is coming out on digital

We are already two weeks into 2023, what about a good dosage of gore, horror, and hilarity? Argentinian Legions (2022) is considered for many a good response to one of the most celebrated horror sagas in modern cinema, the one that started with Bruce Campbell starring in Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (1981) and it has grown to become the saga we all know one with an original trilogy, the Ash vs Evil Dead (2015–2018) TV series, and two remakes being the upcoming Evil Dead Rise (2023) the most recent one.

But let’s center on what Legions (2022) has to offer.

The movie centers on Antonio, a powerful sorcerer who is locked away in an asylum and wastes away in his imprisonment as evil, demonic forces take control of Argentina. If Antonio can escape the psychiatric hospital, and find his daughter, Helena, their combined strength could save Argentina, but Helena has forgotten her powers. Antonio must reteach her the ways of magic and be humanity’s last hope.

This is the new film of awards-winner writer and director Fabián Forte, after being behind the films Mala carne (2003), Dead Man Tells His Own Tale (2016), and segments in the horror anthology Cursed Bastards (2011) among other works.

The main cast in Legions (2022) is formed by Germán de Silva, Lorena Vega, Mariana Anghileri, Marta Haller, Pablo Palavecino, Ezequiel Rodríguez, Demián Salomón, Mauro Altschuler, and María Laura Cali, with the director Fabián Forte in supporting role.

The movie had a successful festival run last year including Sitges Film Festival, Fantasia International Film Festival, and Fantaspoa Film Festival. Now, it is scheduled for an international release on Video on Demand by XYZ Films on January 19, 2023.
