Many people won’t hear about this film since it won’t be advertised in the regular massive media, and many others will succumb to underestimation for the fact that it is a fan film, but the truth is that The Sawyer Massacre (2022) is a very enjoyable slasher horror film in the set in the universe of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that deserves some attention and displays a quality superior of many titles of the sort and even some sequels and reboots of the popular Leatherface saga, including the recent disappointing Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022).
The movie is set on June 30th, 1965, and serves as an unofficial prequel to the original film. It follows Jimmy’s friends as they bring him to the Texas countryside to escape city life after a terrible tragedy. In need of supplies for their cabin, they ascend to a nearby gas station where they are directed to find their supplies at an isolated farmhouse but this property is not as it seems. They soon find themselves hunted by a cannibalistic psychopath with an arsenal of violent tools at his disposal. If any live through the nightmare, they’ll wish they hadn’t.
This is the debut feature film of filmmaker and musician Steve Merlo. He has also been the author of the screenplay, based on the characters from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) created by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper.
