Kevin Bacon will have his Tremors series on Syfy

Over 25 years ago, a young Kevin Bacon starred a funny little independent monster film called Tremors (1990) [check out our review here]. Yeah, I guess you heard of it, right? Years have past and the Graboids are still in our recent memory because of a bunch of sequels, not as good as the original, but still nice films to have some fun watching. Now, it’s Kevin Bacon himself who wants to give back to life his old character Valentine McKee with the idea of a TV Movie that has turned into an 8 episodes TV Series. It was Bacon who approached Jason Blum, from Blumhouse Productions, with the idea of bringing back the Graboids and his classic character. Because, we must remember, Kevin Bacon hasn’t been part of any of the feature sequels until date.

With the machinery on the works, things started to fall from themselves. Fred Ward, who played Earl Bassett, Kevin Bacon’s partner in the original film, is expected to be back. Also, Michael Gross, who has been playing guns enthusiast Burt Gummer in all the sequels, is rumored to return. It is still early to know which other of the classic characters will be reprised since the production of the project is in its early stages.

As Kevin Bacon has stated, “It’s the only character I’ve ever played that I was interested in exploring 25 years later. Tremors (1990) is a really good movie”. And he follows “I don’t go back and watch my movies but because we were doing this one, I had to go back and look at it. It’s just the idea of this loser who is living a very ordinary life and has an extraordinary experience with these monsters and becomes, for a moment, a hero”.

Tremors (1990) was not a big box-office hit, but it had a golden second youth as video rental. Then it is when it became the cult piece as it is now. All of its sequels have been straight to video or Video on Demand titles, including the sixth installment, provisionally called Tremors 6 (2018), which is currently in the state of filming and is expected to come out the 30th of January next year.
