If a couple of years ago we were amazed by a little film called John Wick (2014), all the voices say its sequel is able to keep the quality level if not even raise it. Again written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) tells the story of an contract killer, with Keanu Reeves reprising the role, who is forced to come back from retirement to help out his own colleague and friend. Then he discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life and Wick has to face some of the most lethal assassins of the world.
The bound between Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski is not new. Stahelski has had an extens career in stunts since the 1990s and has been the double of Reeves in films like Point Break (1991), The Matrix (1999) or Constantine (2005). He has also provided stunts for John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. (1996) and Ghosts of Mars (2001), or in other titles like The Crow (1994), Alien: Resurrection (1997) or The Expendables (2010). So when he decided to direct his first motion picture with John Wick (2014), he already knew what an action film is about. And that is something you cleary see on the screen.
Together with Keanu Reeves, John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) is starred by Bridget Moynahan, John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare and Laurence Fishburne. For sure, a very attractive cast to support the story and action.
If last year we were glued to the chair with the gun powder festival of Hardcore Henry (2015), this year seems to be the turn for John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) to take the crown of the best action film of the season. While this weekend the film came out in American theatres ranking a prideful 3rd possition, we will have to wait for next weekend to find it in most of the european theatres. So if you don’t have plans for next weekend, now you know: go watch John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). And if you already had plans, I guess they were as well to watch the film, weren’t they?
