Jeepers Creepers III (2017), originally called Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral, was supposed to have a world premiere at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood next 13th of September. But “due to events beyond our control”, in the words of the organizators, that event has been canceled. And those uncontrollated events are nothing but the protests that the venue has been exposed to due to the past from director Victor Salva.
As many of you might know, in 1988, while Salva was in the filming of his movie Clownhouse (1989), he was convicted of sexual misconduct with one of the film’s underage stars – a 12-year-old boy – including videotaping one of the encounters. Commercial videotapes and magazines containing child pornography were also found at his home. Salva pleaded guilty to lewd and lascivious conduct, oral sex with a person under 14, and procuring a child for pornography. He was sentenced to three years in state prison, of which he served 15 months. He completed his parole in 1992. That past is still following the filmmaker, and almost caused the shut down of production from Jeepers Creepers III (2017) –read the related content here-.
Now, the third installment of the Jeepers Creepers trilogy will have a mere straight to video released, if nothing changes scheduled for the 26th of September. Regarding the movie main star Gina Philips, a fourth installment is already being planned and will be made if this third one works well at the box office. But probably these events and all the controversy around director Victor Salva are going to change those plans, or at least to make producers re-think about them.
Jeepers Creepers III (2017) takes place right after the end of the first film, Sgt. Tubbs teams with a group of hunters from Wheaton Valley to find and stop the creeper before the end of its 23 day feeding frenzy. Like its predecessor, is also written by Victor Salva and Jonathan Breck reprises his role as The Creeper.
