One of the horror filmmakers superstars of the new millenia, James Wan, is already working on what will be his next movie as a director. The man who became popular for being one of the creators of the Saw saga and The Conjuring universe jumped recently into the A-class list of directors being responsible of the hit blockbusters Furious 7 (2015) and Aquaman (2018). He was rumored of being chosen to direct the new Nightmare On Elm Street movie but that didn’t work out. In exchange, he has decided to go back to his origins and is working on an old school horror style.
James Wan posted recently in his own Facebook page “there’s been a bit of speculation as to what my next project is… all I’ll say is, I’m super excited to go back to my indie roots with this hard-R thriller. An original horror idea (not a reboot/remake or anything based on existing IP) with old school, practical effects and no giant, blue screen sets”. He finished the statement with a mysterious “That’s all I’ll say for now”.
The filmmaker is currently int he process of writing his new movie together with Ingrid Bisu, his partner and already part of The Conjuring universe after being one of the stars in The Nun (2018). The film, which doesn’t have a public name yet, is expected to shoot in Los Angeles this coming fall, to be released sometime in 2020. Wan, together with Michael Clear, will produce for Atomic Monster.
