Is the sequel to "Happy Death Day" in the works?

As Bloody Disgusting informed yesterday, the star for one of the slashers of last year, Happy Death Day (2017), Jessica Rothe, has detailed that director Christopher Landon is already planning a possible sequel for his successful film. With less than 5 million dollars of budget, Happy Death Day (2017) managed to gross worldwide over $100 million. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what is called a very profitable flick. A big candy for Blumhouse Productions, who were behind the first installment.

In Happy Death Day (2017), after a night of hard-partying and heavy-drinking, the self-centered college student and sorority sister, Tree Gelbman, wakes up on the morning of her birthday with a serious hangover in the dorm of a guy she can’t recall his name. As Tree goes about her day, little does she know that everything that happens now or will happen during the course of the day, is a twisted déjà vu of a reality that repeats itself again and again, until her brutal murder at night by a masked madman. With every repetition, or better yet, resurrection, Tree gets a little bit closer to the identity of her unknown killer, however, figuring out who he or she may be, always ends up with Tree‘s death. Wake up, figure out the killer, die, repeat. After all, practice makes perfect.

According to Production Weekly, the working title for the sequel might be “Foe Paw”. This is not officially announced yet, but Geek Vibes Nation twitted yesterday on their official account “It looks like the sequel to #HappyDeathDay will begin filming May 14 in New Orleans”.

In words of Jessica Rothe, in a conversation with Collider, “The sequel, the way he [director Christopher Landon]described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything”.
