Of course, this is not a gossip publication. But, sometimes, a little bit of the family background is useful to have a picture of what we are dealing with. Because Lisa Joy is married to Jonathan Nolan, the brother of Christopher Nolan and co-writer of some of his movies like The Prestige (2006), The Dark Knight (2008), and Interstellar (2014). The couple is also the creator of the popular science-fiction series Westworld (2016–), nominated 2 times for the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series.
With this background, it is obvious there are big expectations for the release of the debut feature film by Lisa Joy, the science-fiction and thriller Reminiscence (2021). The movie centers on Nick Bannister, a private investigator of the mind who navigates the alluring world of the past when his life is changed by a new client Mae. A simple case becomes an obsession after she disappears and he fights to learn the truth about her.
Rebecca Ferguson, known for Doctor Sleep (2019), Life (2017), and the Mission Impossible movie series, and Hugh Jackman, popular for Van Helsing (2004), Prisoners (2013), and playing Wolverine in all the X-Men related movies, are the stars of the film. Thandiwe Newton and Angela Sarafyan, both stars in Westworld (2016–), also star alongside Natalie Martinez, Cliff Curtis, Giovannie Cruz, Brett Cullen, and Teri Wyble completing the main cast.
Reminiscence (2021) is Rated PG-13 for strong violence, drug material throughout, sexual content, and some strong language. The movie had already a limited premiere at BFI IMAX on August 11, 2021, where it achieved very positive reviews. It is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 20, 2021, and will also have a month-long simultaneous release on the HBO Max streaming service.
