The ones who have seen it call The Exorcism of God (2021), also known as El exorcismo de Dios in the Spanish language, as one of the most exciting exorcism and devil possession films of the last years.

It centers on Father Peter Williams, an American exorcist, who is possessed by the demon he was trying to expel from a young woman and for which he is forced, against his will, to commit the most terrible sacrilege. Eighteen years later, trying to keep his guilt buried under charity work for the poor and children in a small town in Mexico, Peter discovers that the demon has returned. This time it has possessed a young woman named Esperanza, and in addition, it also unleashes a deadly illness among the town’s children. But his true purpose is something else: to possess Peter’s soul. To exorcise Esperanza, Peter must confess his sin, but if he does, he will condemn himself not only to a fate of ex-communication, but also to sacrifice his faith, his home, his soul, and the chance to save the people he cares about most.

This is the new movie directed by Alejandro Hidalgo after his debut feature film The House at the End of Time (2013), winner of several international awards, and that has the object of a South Korean adaptation called House of the Disappeared (2017) and an upcoming American remake. He is also the producer of the movie and co-writer with Santiago Fernández Calvete, also known for The Second Death (2012), Intimate Witness (2015), Piedra Roja (2017), The White Devil (2019), and Sangre Vurdalak (2020).

Will Beinbrink, known for his roles in It Chapter Two (2019) and Shepard (2020), and Joseph Marcell, mostly remembered as his iconic role Geoffrey Butler in hit comedy series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–1996), are the main stars in The Exorcism of God (2021). María Gabriela de Faría, Raquel Rojas, Irán Castillo, Alfredo Herrera, and Hector Kotsifakis complete the main cast.

This Mexico, Venezuela, and United States English language production is Rated R for disturbing and violent content, sexual content/nudity, and some language. During 2021 it has been part of some of the most prestigious international genre film festivals like Fantastic Fest, Sitges Film Festival, and Screamfest Horror Film Festival. This February it has been released in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, waiting for upcoming international release dates.
