Birthday parties, or any kind of celebration when you make a get-together with old friends you haven’t seen for a while, can be designed as happy and successful events to become but they usually don’t turn out as expected. In social satire dressed as horror-comedy, All My Friends Hate Me (2021) the main protagonist will feel the consequences in his own skin of what paranoia, a sick joke, and rejection means.
It’s Pete’s birthday and the old gang from college is throwing him a party out in the country. During what’s meant to be a joyful weekend reunion, Pete finds himself increasingly unnerved by his friends’ inside jokes and snarky comments. As the atmosphere goes from awkward to terrifying to downright surreal, Pete is pushed to the breaking point. Is he being paranoid or is he the butt of some elaborate joke?
This is the debut feature film by Andrew Gaynord, a director, producer, and writer who has been involved in some comedy TV series like Stath Lets Flats (2018–) and Netflix’s The Characters (2016). The screenplay has been written by Tom Palmer, an actor who has also been seen in Man of the Hour (2018) and the Doctor Who (2005–) TV series, and Tom Stourton, who also plays the main role of Pete in All My Friends Hate Me (2021).
Together with Tom Stourton, Georgina Campbell, Joshua McGuire, Christopher Fairbank, Dustin Demri-Burns, Antonia Clarke, Kieran Hodgson, Graham Dickson, and Charly Clive complete the main cast.
